Ruben Amorim: Former Man United boss breaks silence on old club

Manchester United played their final pre-season match of the season in Poland yesterday.

The Red Devils would have been hoping for a morale-boosting victory, and this looked set to happen after they were 2-1 up after 55 minutes.

Nonetheless, a surreal collapse in the final 30 minutes saw AC Milan run out 4-2 winners over Michael Carrick’s side.

The match will have been even more frustrating for the side as it was their former manager, Ruben Amorim, who did the damage.

The Portuguese manager spent 14 tumultuous months as manager of the club, during which they finished 15th in the table.

He did reach a Europa League final but lost the 2025 edition to Tottenham Hotspur.

Amorim was finally sacked in January 2026 after poor results and a falling out with certain players and the sporting director, Jason Wilcox.

Speaking after the match, Amorim was in a reflective mood and kept his cards close to his chest when asked about his former side.

The Daily Mail carries comments from the head coach in which he stated, “It’s a normal game. Since I signed with Milan, I haven’t felt anything about Manchester United. I’m just proud to have been at Manchester United and I still love Manchester United, but after signing with Milan, I don’t feel anything negative about anything because I’m very happy.”

Speaking further on his new club, he asserted, “I’m where I should be. So I just want to continue here. I wanted to win a game in pre-season to give our fans a good image.”

In addition, Amorim was greeted by some English journalists and jokingly asked them if they missed him.

One of them replied, “we miss your press conferences,” to which he laughed and retorted, “they’re more boring now!”
