UNITED IN THE RED! - Man Utd profits soar after Ratcliffe cost-cutting but losses rise as financial accounts released

Manchester United recorded record revenues in their latest financial results. United say that the club continue to benefit from Sir Jim Ratcliffe's operating cost and headcount reductions, alongside the improved third-place Premier League finish during the 2025/26 season.

Despite recording a full year operating profit of £22.6million, United once again posted an overall loss for the year of £43m, compared to £33m the year before.

United's revenue, however, rose by 1.7 per cent compared to 2024/25, which the club believe shows they are on the right track given they had no European football and no training kit sponsor in place. In total, United posted record revenues of £677.6m, up from £666.5m in the previous full year.

The club feel that more "financial discipline" is needed to stabilise the business after they recorded a loss. United have said that the sacking of Ruben Amorim earlier this year contributed to losses. However, the latest results reveal that the departure of Amorim and his staff cost just £8.2m, which is significantly less than the £36.6m United forked out after firing staff, including his predecessor Erik ten Hag, last season.

Debt levels at United, meanwhile, are also still rising, though it is part down to the change in interest rates and the refinancing of some bonds in June of this year.

United believe "non-current borrowings" now stand at £577.6m, up from £471.9m last year. The Reds also have a revolving credit facility, which is similar to a credit card, and that stood at £100m at the end of June 2026.

Meanwhile, United's matchday income dropped by £6.8m, which is no surprise given the Reds had 10 fewer games at Old Trafford last season, due to no European football and being knocked out of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup at the first hurdle.

Once more, United's wage bill fell, down to £302m, and United said that was "primarily due to changes in the make-up of the men’s first team squad, combined with savings associated with headcount reduction programs implemented over the previous two fiscal years."

United Chief Executive Officer Omar Berrada said: "We are pleased to have secured record revenues and adjusted EBITDA which demonstrates the underlying strength of our business, particularly in a season without European football. This shows the direct impact of the work we have been doing over the past two years.

"It also proves Manchester United's enduring popularity and commercial strength. While these results confirm that we are on the right trajectory, we will continue to take a disciplined approach to ensure our finances remain sustainable.

"With that financial sustainability in mind, we have strengthened both our men’s and women’s teams during the summer window and our men’s team has seen the return of Champions League football to Old Trafford.

"We have also strengthened commercially and have welcomed Betway as our new Training Kit partner and SumUp as our new Sleeve partner; two excellent organisations which we are delighted to be working with, alongside our kit supplier, adidas and front of shirt partner, Snapdragon.

"Our other main area of focus is our plan to develop a new 100,000-seater stadium. We have now completed the major milestone of securing the land which will form part of the proposed location of the new stadium."

Alongside this, United laid a new pitch at Old Trafford for the first time in 14 years in the summer, and the old surface has been cut into 7cm x 7cm squares. Those have been put in acrylic cubes and sent out to supporters who want them in a smart black casing for £125 each.

The Red Devils have made a disappointing start to the 2026/27 season. They have won just one of their opening five Premier League matches, drawing two and losing two. United made a winning start to life back in the Champions League by thrashing Sabah 4-0 but they were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Brighton.
