Tottenham dream attack as Roberto De Zerbi signs Cody Gakpo and Savinho in £132m double deal

Tottenham are still looking to add some more players to Roberto De Zerbi's squad ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign

Roberto De Zerbi has bolstered Tottenham's defence and midfield this summer, leaving just the attack to address. And it looks like the Spurs boss has his eye on two current Premier League stars, Cody Gakpo and Savinho, who could complete a dream forward line.

So far, £237million has been spent in the transfer window, with Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke all joining. The free-agent market has also been utilised, with Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka signing for zilch.

Tonali and Fernandes have substantially beefed up the midfield, whilst Senesi, Robertson, Dubravka and Van Hecke all add experience to Spurs' backline. But De Zerbi will turn his focus to the frontline and it seems like his current targets point towards a more flexible attack for the 2026/27 season.

Cody Gakpo

Liverpool forward Gakpo is on Tottenham's agenda. It is understood that Spurs are planning a move for the Netherlands international, but this won't come cheaply.

Gakpo has four years left on his deal and the Reds would want a replacement sealed before they sanction an exit. However, the Dutchman is a perfect transfer for De Zerbi, as he can play across the entire frontline. Throughout his career, Gakpo has made 168 goal contributions from the left wing and found the net 26 times as a central striker.

Discussing his success as a lone striker for Liverpool in 2023, Gakpo said: "Now that I'm playing at Liverpool, I think it's a nice position. I have become convinced that being a striker suits me." It is reported that his ability to play as a No. 9 is one of the key reasons De Zerbi wants him and that a fee of around £72m will be demanded for Gakpo's signature.

Savinho

Savinho has been of interest to Spurs for some time and the Brazilian is keen on a move to north London. It is understood that the Lilywhites are closing in on a deal that is expected to cost around £60m plus add-ons.

The Manchester City star is currently playing out pre-season with his current club in Hong Kong, appearing in their 1-1 draw with Inter Milan. During the game, as the players were walking down the tunnel, one fan called out and said: "Savinho, come to Spurs."

The winger gave a thumbs up to the supporter, although it is unclear whether he heard the message or was just acknowledging the fan. Optimists will take this as a clear indication that Savinho will indeed sign on the dotted line.

How could the front three look?

Spurs currently have Dominic Solanke, Richarlison, Mohamed Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski and Mathys Tel on the books as forwards. Not to mention, Wilson Odobert is currently sidelined as he recovers from a knee injury, Mikey Moore is anticipated to depart on loan and Dane Scarlett could stay.

De Zerbi also admitted that Richarlison could be on the move as he enters the final 12 months of his deal. When asked about the Brazilian's future at Spurs, the manager said: "I don't know. I didn't understand well because sometimes he says he wants to stay, sometimes he wants to leave. We have to speak anyway. There is not any problem. He's a lovely guy."

Manor Solomon is also expected to be sold, but the arrival of Gakpo could help soften the blow. Solanke has recently returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines and is ready to kick on. Gakpo and Savinho, both potentially joining, could also lift the pressure on the English striker and allow him to gradually build his way back into the team as Kudus returns to star.

De Zerbi would have the option of playing Gakpo out wide alongside Solanke or Richarlison, or putting the Dutchman up front with Kudus or Savinho flanking him. One thing is clear: the boss would have plenty of options in the attacking front if he were to get his transfer wishes.
