The damning Man Utd stat that proves Gary Neville RIGHT after Fulham draw

Manchester United’s dismal performance at Fulham was summed up by them running more than six kilometres fewer than their hosts. The Red Devils turned in a turgid display at Craven Cottage on Sunday afternoon.

Michael Carrick’s side were lucky to escape with a point after Matheus Cunha’s late deflected effort cancelled out Lisandro Martinez’s own goal. United icon Gary Neville was left furious after the game and claimed that the side were outworked by the home side.

He said: “Very rarely do I say a team doesn’t work hard or is lacking in effort. That’s the ultimate criticism you can give a group of players.

“I’m always very careful to say that, but in those first 15 minutes of that second half, and generally for the first 60 minutes, Man Utd were a genuine disgrace. Nowhere near good enough without the ball.

“Michael is of course saying something different to us than he is saying privately. That would’ve really worried me. People will ask questions about him, but he knew that when he took the job.

“But there’s no panic in that sense – no one is putting pressure on Carrick – but if those types of performances continue, he will find himself in a lot of trouble. They’ve got to work harder than that for him.”

And the statistics have now shown that Neville was absolutely spot on. As per FotMob, United were shown to have run 110.2km as a collective at Craven Cottage, with the home side racking together numbers of 116.7km.

There are more worrying underlying numbers though, with Fulham shown to have covered a greater distance running and sprinting, while they also made 10 more overall sprints than United throughout the 90 minutes.

United’s lack of work rate was also an issue picked up by goalscorer Matheus Cunha in his post-match interview. He said: “It’s hard to explain. I feel like after the first half we played well. It was how we planned to do it in the beginning of the second half.

“I feel like they put more into it than us and we cannot accept this. We always play better after conceding a goal but it cannot be like this."

Carrick’s side sit 12th in the Premier League ahead of the first international break of the campaign. Their next assignment pits them against struggling Tottenham in just under three weeks’ time.
