Spurs in advanced talks for free-agent Marcos Senesi as De Zerbi plans defensive overhaul
Tottenham Hotspur are in advanced talks to sign Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi on a free transfer this summer.
The North London side are in negotiations with Senesi over a transfer, provided the club retain their Premier League status. Senesi has attracted considerable interest as he nears the end of his deal at Bournemouth, with the Argentine set to depart in the summer.
Spurs are the leading contender to sign the 28-year-old, according to The Athletic , with talks underway.
Roberto De Zerbi is planning an overhaul of his squad and Senesi is viewed as an ideal option to strengthen at centre-back.
He ranks third in the Premier League for interceptions made this season and could replace Argentina teammate Cristian Romero, with the Spurs captain keen to explore an exit. Micky van de Ven's future is also uncertain amid interest from rival clubs.
Spurs are not the only side in pursuit of Senesi, with several Premier League rivals also exploring a deal.
However, the club have emerged as frontrunners after holding advanced negotiations with the player's camp. Any deal will hinge on whether Spurs survive, with De Zerbi's side currently in the relegation places and two points from safety.
Alongside Senesi, Spurs remain interested in signing Andy Robertson. The Scotland captain will also become a free agent in July after announcing he will leave Liverpool. Spurs pushed to sign the 32-year-old in the January transfer window but were unable to finalise a deal.
