Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano explains why Manchester United have no plans to replace Michael Carrick at this stage.
The Premier League giants are enduring a rough start to the campaign. They have only assembled five points from as many league fixtures. They also crashed out of the Carabao Cup after squandering a two-goal lead to Brighton at home.
But while some sources speculated that Carrick is walking on thin ice, Romano believes the reality is different.

In the latest video posted on his official YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano delved into the managerial situation at United.
The Italian journalist admits that everyone at the club has been disappointed with the early-season woes. However, the hierarchy still has confidence in the manager.
Therefore, INEOS have yet to open any channels with potential replacements, as they continue to back Carrick to turn it around. The club directors believe patience will be required after the major midfield overhaul, and they hope the situation will improve once they have Carlos Baleba up and running.
Moreover, Romano makes an ‘important’ distinction between Carrick and some of his predecessors who lost the dressing room, noting that the 45-year-old still enjoys the full backing of the squad.

When Erik ten Hag was sacked in October 2024, he had already made a few enemies in the squad. Perhaps the same can be said about Ruben Amorim, who never truly lost the dressing room, but many of his players weren’t happy with his methods, not to mention those who were omitted from his plans.
On the other hand, Carrick has been a diplomatic figure who even managed to bring Marcus Rashford back in the fold after an 18-month exile.
But while his ways may be popular among the players, Wayne Rooney warned Carrick that he’ll have to get his hands dirty if he wishes to emulate the successes of the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, and Pep Guardiola.
