Valencia CF have reached an agreement with Javier Aguirre as the new head coach of the first team.
The Mexican coach joins until the end of the current season and the Club will have an option to extend his contract for one additional season.
Javier Aguirre (Mexico City, 01/12/1958) joins Valencia CF after managing his country’s national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, in which Mexico reached the Round of 16. This was his third participation as Mexico head coach in the tournament after the 2002 Korea and Japan and 2010 South Africa editions.
Throughout an extensive career in the dugout, the new Valencia CF head coach has managed LALIGA clubs such as CA Osasuna, Atlético de Madrid, Real Zaragoza, RCD Espanyol, CD Leganés and RCD Mallorca, as well as having international experiences with clubs and national teams in Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Mexico.
Among his main achievements in Spain is qualifying for the UEFA Champions League with CA Osasuna. At international level, he has won the CONCACAF Gold Cup (2009 and 2025) and the CONCACAF Nations League (2024-25) with the Mexico national team, and in his country he won the Liga title with Pachuca (1999) and the CONCACAF Champions League with CF Monterrey (2021).
Javier Aguirre will be presented to the media as the new Valencia CF head coach next Monday, September 28, in the press room at Mestalla.
