Reports have surfaced regarding Newcastle United's summer transfer window strategy, which could impact the futures of Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade. The Magpies face a hectic finish to the campaign over the coming months, but are already eyeing the summer when they'll have another opportunity to bolster their squad.

Eddie Howe was forced to conduct a significant overhaul of Newcastle's striking department last summer, with Alexander Isak departing St James' Park in a deal worth £130million.

Newcastle subsequently brought in Woltemade and Wissa, with both forwards experiencing varying degrees of success during their debut campaign on Tyneside.

Consequently, fresh reports has emerged regarding Newcastle's apparent transfer market plans this summer, especially concerning the centre forward role, reports Chronicle Live .

According to Sky Sports , Newcastle are pursuing a new striker when the summer transfer window opens, despite spending £125million on bringing Woltemade and Wissa to St James' Park less than 12 months ago.

The report doesn't elaborate on which centre forward Newcastle might pursue this summer, with the Magpies also understood to be assessing the market for a new goalkeeper.

Updates have also emerged on the futures of Woltemade and Wissa, whose debut seasons at Newcastle haven't entirely gone according to plan.

Both forwards are anticipated to stay part of the Newcastle squad for next season, despite Newcastle seeking to recruit a new striker. Wissa spent the opening half of the campaign sidelined while recuperating from a knee problem, and Newcastle will be hoping that a complete pre-season will provide the DR Congo international with the best platform to flourish during his second year on Tyneside.

Woltemade, having consistently found the net early in the season, has frequently been used in midfield in recent weeks. Reports suggest, however, that Newcastle intend to restore the striker to a central attacking position for the upcoming campaign.

Howe recently discussed both Wissa and Woltemade's debut seasons at Newcastle and explained why he anticipates the pair will prove crucial during the closing stages of the season.

"Every player wants to play the biggest games," Howe said before last week’s defeat to Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby. "Nick [Woltemade] has had a lot of football this year. I thought he played really well against Chelsea .

"They're in different circumstances. I wouldn't put them together. Yoane has had a big injury and I've said many times here I don't think we've seen the best of him yet. Hopefully that will come. I'd look at them independently rather than together.

"They both have big parts to play in the close of this season. We have eight massive games to go. We now only have the Premier League to focus on. Collectively we have to focus on the rest of the season."
