Michael Carrick gives Benjamin Sesko injury update after missing Man Utd vs Fulham

Michael Carrick gave an optimistic update on Benjamin Sesko after the Manchester United striker missed the Premier League clash at Fulham on Sunday.

There have been growing calls for Carrick to start Sesko after a difficult beginning to the season, with United winning just one of their opening four league games.

The 23-year-old did start last Wednesday as the Red Devils were knocked out of the Carabao Cup but he did not travel with the squad for the match at Craven Cottage.

Reports suggested Sesko had aggravated the shin injury that he picked up at the end of the last season and which continued to affect him at the start of the current campaign.

Carrick did not clarify exactly what the issue was but was hopeful it wouldn’t affect the striker too badly.

‘He just felt a little bit of pain after the game the other night [against Brighton ],’ the United manager told MUTV ahead of Sunday’s kick-off.

‘We’re assessing that. Hopefully, it’s not too bad but we will have to see.’

A three-week international break follows the Fulham game and it remains to be seen whether Sesko pulls out of the Slovenia squad.

After the break, United host struggling Tottenham on October 10 before a huge Champions League clash at Atletico Madrid.

In better news for the Red Devils, Luke Shaw has returned from injury and makes the starting XI, while £70million summer signing Carlos Baleba could make his debut from the bench after recovering from an ankle issue.

‘Luke coming back is good for the squad,’ Carrick added

‘And having Carlos in the group for the first time, coming to the club and not being fully around the group is not always easy. So, for him to be part of it is important today.’
