Mason Mount injury update after Man Utd draw 1-1 against PSG

Mason Mount appeared to allay fears he had suffered a serious injury during Manchester United’s pre-season draw against PSG.

Michael Carrick’s side more than held their own against the back-to-back Champions League winners and were, ultimately, unfortunate not to come away with a morale-boosting win.

United looked to be up against it when Ibrahim Mbaye fired Luis Enrique’s side ahead in just the second minute, but Bryan Mbeumo’s equaliser was just reward for another encouraging display.

Indeed, the only blemish on an afternoon when United fans got their first glimpse of Youri Tielemans in a red shirt came just before the midway point in the first-half when Mount limped off.

The former Chelsea star looked to be in some discomfort and supporters could have been forgiven for thinking the 27-year-old, whose Old Trafford career has been blighted by injuries, had suffered another significant setback.

Mount, however, appeared to be walking freely, without the aid of a protective boot or knee support, as he boarded the team bus after the game and Carrick will hope he will be able to call on his services when United are next in action against Leeds United on Wednesday.

Speaking ahead of the trip to Dublin, Carrick said: ‘Looking forward to it. It’s been a bit of different chapters through pre-season but to get everybody together it will be great. Two more games [also vs AC Milan next weekend] this week and looking forward to seeing the group develop.

‘Today the boys coming off the bench showed their quality. Top, top players. It was nice to have them back and we get more back next week. We’re in a good place.

‘I feel it’s been a good pre-season so far. The games that we’ve had, we’ve kind of built them. We’ve taken steps throughout that.

‘Unfortunately we didn’t quite get the win today but there was a lot of positive action that [the fans] can say they enjoyed the game.’

‘I enjoyed it,’ he added ‘Good challenge. Slightly different with the way they play. We should’ve scored more goals.

‘Very different to what we’ve played against, the boys adapted really well, so there were a lot of positives from the game.
