Manchester United handed major boost in January pursuit of Barcelona star Alejandro Balde

Manchester United have been handed a boost in their hopes of signing Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde during the January transfer window.
According to a report from Football Insider, United now have an “improved” chance of securing the 22-year-old after his lack of playing time at Barcelona has changed the situation.
Alejandro Balde attracts Manchester United interest
Balde was heavily linked with a move away from Barcelona during the summer, with the Catalan giants understood to have wanted around £30 million for the defender.
A deal proved difficult for United at the time, particularly after the club had already invested heavily in other areas of the squad. Balde was also happy to remain at his boyhood club and continue competing for his place.
However, things have changed considerably since then.
The Spain international has made just 12 minutes of La Liga football this season, and his lack of regular opportunities could make him more open to leaving Barcelona in January.
United have been monitoring the situation closely as they look to add greater depth at left-back. Balde remains one of the players towards the top of their list, and his availability could make the upcoming transfer window particularly interesting.
The defender made 42 appearances across all competitions last season and already has significant Champions League experience despite being only 22.
Balde could solve United’s left-back problem
Manchester United are also considering Luke Shaw’s future, with talks over a potential new contract expected to take place at the beginning of 2027.
Balde could therefore represent a long-term option for the club, although Barcelona’s £30 million valuation remains a major obstacle.
It remains to be seen whether United are prepared to meet those demands, but Balde’s lack of first-team football has certainly given them renewed hope of completing a January deal.
