Man Utd striker Sesko set to undergo MRI for possible ‘chronic’ injury issue

Manchester United star Benjamin Sesko is set to undergo tests to determine whether he has aggravated his troublesome shin injury. The Slovenian forward missed the Red Devils’ draw with Fulham on Sunday.

Asked for an update, United boss Michael Carrick said: “No, I think that just because you get setbacks in certain positions, you can’t sign a player for cover in every one. We’re not sure with Ben yet, he felt some pain after the [Brighton] game and we are assessing him at the moment.

“He definitely wasn’t ready for today. I haven’t got any more news to give you, just that he felt pain on his shin."

It appears that there is now serious concern for United and Sesko’s national side that he could be sidelined for some time. According to Ekipa, there is worry that because Sesko’s injury is the same as the shin problem he picked up last season, it could mean that it is a chronic issue.

Sesko will of course undergo further testing, with reports suggesting that he will have a MRI scan in London to get a closer look at the issue. The striker only joined United from German side RB Leipzig last summer but missed seven games through injury.

He still managed to score 12 goals across just 19 starts in all competitions. Sesko had already made six appearances for the Red Devils this season, scoring against Everton and Sabah in the Champions League.

He is not the only injury concern that United have heading into the first international break of the season. Marcus Rashford was also taken off against Fulham at the weekend and Carrick seemed somewhat downbeat in the aftermath.

"We had to bring him off as he had a bit of an issue," Carrick told beIN Sports. Asked if Rashford was alright, he replied: "I'm not sure." The issue has been severe enough to see Rashford pull out of England duty for the forthcoming international break.

United will certainly be hoping that both Rashford and Sesko are back to full fitness ahead of their next game in a little under three weeks' time. Their next Premier League clash pits them against struggling Spurs.

The Red Devils have also been blighted by inconsistency this term, having won just one of their opening five games of the campaign to leave them 12th in the table.
