Man United and Chelsea hit roadblock in race for 25-year-old Premier League attacker

Manchester United and Chelsea have both registered interest in Brentford striker Igor Thiago, but their plans have been immediately complicated by the Bees’ refusal to negotiate. According to TEAMtalk, Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham have all registered their interest through intermediaries, while Bayern Munich are also closely monitoring Thiago.

Brentford, however, have made it clear they will not entertain offers this summer.

The 25-year-old signed a new long-term contract earlier this year and is understood to be happy in west London, leaving Brentford under no pressure from either the player or financially.

United’s summer has already significantly refreshed Michael Carrick’s midfield, while Chelsea have been even busier.

The Premier League notes that Xabi Alonso’s squad has been undergoing another rebuild, while United can now focus more heavily on improving their attacking options.

Both Man United & Chelsea need a striker

Thiago would certainly improve both teams. United would gain a physical striker capable of occupying centre-backs, attacking crosses and sharing the scoring burden with Sesko.

Chelsea could use those same qualities when facing opponents who defend deep and deny space behind their back line.

The problem is that Brentford’s stance leaves potential buyers needing to make an extraordinary offer simply to begin negotiations.

Tottenham’s involvement could create additional domestic competition, while Bayern’s interest gives Thiago another elite option should his position change later in the window.

Thiago’s 22-goal season makes the interest understandable, but Brentford hold every advantage: a long contract, a happy player and no desire to sell.
