Man City 115 charges LIVE: Updates as punishment to be decided and appeal latest

Hello and welcome to our dedicated live blog on Manchester City after they were found guilty of allegedly breaching Premier League financial rules 114 times.

It is understood the club have already started the appeal process with chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak suggesting as such in his statement which included the phrase 'the process still has a long way to run'.

The Premier League are yet to comment on the matter but pundits and ex-pros have been clear on what punishment they should receive with relegation a possibility.

Any sanctions being imposed will follow the appeal process with potential legal action from other clubs impacted and possibly City's own players after that which suggests it will some time before this situation is resolved.

Man City could use the delay in reaching a verdict from their financial charges case against the Premier League as an argument to appeal against some of their alleged breaches.

Manchester City players have been told they could have a legal case for ripping up their contracts but that more consequences than just relegation may be required.

Via The Sunday Times, Kavan Bakhda, a partner and the head of sports at Mishcon de Reya, said: “Relegation would not give Manchester City ’s players an automatic legal right to tear up their contracts and walk away. However, relegation could lead to thorny legal disputes between players and the club.

"If Manchester City were relegated because of serious wrongdoing by the club, players could in theory argue that the club’s conduct amounted to a fundamental breach entitling them to terminate their contracts.

As mentioned in Saturday's open letter, there have been two other statements released by the club on the charges case.

The first of those, published in February 2023 after the Premier League charges were first brought to the club, read: "Manchester City FC is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with.

"The Club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent Commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position. As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all."

Last Friday, via a spokesperson, a City statement read: "The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality. As such Manchester City FC’s position remains consistent with the Club’s statement of February 2023.

The understanding almost immediately after the alleged guilty verdict emerged on Friday was that Man City had appealed against the decision. That was supported by some words in Khaldoon Al Mubarak's statement 24 hours later.

At the absolute minimum, a hefty fine and points deduction should be coming Manchester City's way. The value of the latter will ultimately depend on what rules were proven to have breached after an appeal.

With Everton given an eight-point deduction, down from 10, for just two breaches, it suggests that one big enough to relegate City could be on the way.

A transfer embargo being imposed is another possibility but immediate expulsion from the Premier League is not guaranteed as they are a separate body from the EFL, who may not accept City into their system.
