Leeds United given transfer hint as Borussia Monchengladbach omit Nico Elvedi

Nico Elvedi was left out of Borussia Monchengladbach’s squad to face Aston Villa in today’s pre-season friendly, amid renewed Leeds United interest.

Sebastiaan Bornauw appears set to leave Elland Road for Hamburg, initially on loan with an option to buy, yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk understands. In the wake of that, Leeds are said to have revived their move for Elvedi.

Leeds have reportedly agreed terms on a three-year contract with the 29-year-old, while Gladbach are thought to want around £8.5m. Progress is said to have been made this week.

Gladbach named their team this afternoon and Elvedi was not involved, having featured in earlier warm-ups including Wednesday’s 8-0 win at SSVg Velbert. At the same time, Bornauw was on the Leeds bench to face Augsburg, with Joe Rodon, Jaka Bijol and £34m summer signing Tarik Muharemovic starting.

After Wednesday’s penalty-shootout defeat to Manchester United, Daniel Farke praised Bornauw’s professionalism and importance, highlighting his versatility and strong record when starting. He said discussions are ongoing and the club will consider the player’s wishes, though he would be happy if Bornauw stays. He added that he rates the Belgian very highly and signalled further talks in the coming days.
