Jurgen Klopp has already revealed Liverpool plan as Man City discover possible punishments

The timeline works against the former Liverpool boss with Man City expected to appeal decision

Jurgen Klopp’s comments regarding Liverpool, potentially, being retrospectively handed a Premier League title have resurfaced.

This is in light of Manchester City, reportedly, being been found guilty of all but one of the 115 charges brought against them by the Premier League over breaches of its financial regulations.

The verdict was first reported by The Athletic on September 25 following an investigation and legal process spanning several years, with Man City said to have been found guilty on 114 charges and cleared on one.

While Man City are expected to appeal the verdict, stripping of titles and trophies is one of the sanctions the club could potentially face if their they are unsuccessful.

It must be stressed that a decision on sanctions has not yet been made, though Klopp has previously welcomed any decision that would see Liverpool awarded a Premier League title.

Speaking in 2024 after leaving Liverpool, the German said: "If it would happen, I told all the people that want it to book a flight, I buy the beer.

"Whatever we have to celebrate we will do it.

"We would have our own parade in my garden."

If Man City were to be stripped of their three Premier League titles won during the nine-year period between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons, which covers the 115 alleged FFP breaches, Liverpool would only be entitled to the 2013-14 title - when Brendan Rodgers was in charge.

Klopp’s Liverpool side finished runners-up to Man City in 2018-19 and 2021-22, though these seasons are not in question.

Any punishment for Man City would be determined in accordance with the Premier League’s rules and could range from a substantial points deduction to a suspension.

In the most serious circumstances, it could even mean expulsion from the league.
