Harry Kane believes Anthony Gordon and Trent Alexander-Arnold only getting better after La Liga moves

Harry Kane praised Anthony Gordon as England’s "difference maker" while commending the return of Trent Alexander-Arnold following both Spain-based players' impressive performances in the victory over Czechia.

Thomas Tuchel’s side recovered from Saturday’s chaotic 3-2 defeat against Spain with a vital Nations League win in Prague, where Pavel Sulc received a first-half red card for the hosts.

England’s record goalscorer Kane wrapped up the 2-0 victory on Tuesday night, after Gordon broke the deadlock by heading home an excellent cross from Alexander-Arnold shortly after half-time.

The 25-year-old winger has now scored in three consecutive international caps, and Bayern Munich striker Kane believes his high-profile move from Newcastle to Barcelona has elevated his confidence.

"I think sometimes going to a big club like that gives you more self-belief, more confidence," the England skipper said.

"You feel like you belong on the biggest stage and I think he’s taken that into his England performances.

"He was outstanding against Spain on Saturday, again today he was the difference maker. He was always looking to be direct and be the one to get us ahead and a great finish from him as well.

"A lovely ball by Trent, but those finishes aren’t easy and he took it really well."

Gordon was England’s standout performer in Prague, where Real Madrid right-back Alexander-Arnold’s key assist capped an encouraging first start under German coach Tuchel.

The former Liverpool star previously appeared to lack an international future under the German coach, but injuries opened the door to the unique talent’s first selection since June 2025.

"Trent’s outstanding," Kane said. "The delivery, the passing range, the crossing but also today defensively he was outstanding.

"From our point of view, you know he’s a fantastic player. Trent just has to keep his head down, keep working hard.

"He’s been great in camp so far, the way he’s trained, the way he’s pushed himself and pushed others around him.

"So, look, I think he’s showing to the boss that he wants to be here, wants to be in this team and he’s done a fantastic performance today. Let’s see what happens in the next couple of games."

England continue their four-match Nations League schedule with a trip to face Croatia on Saturday, prior to hosting Czechia at Wembley next Tuesday.

Kane will equal Peter Shilton’s 125-cap national team record should he feature in both upcoming fixtures, while the 87-goal striker continues his march toward a century of goals.

"I don’t like to think too far ahead, but of course it’s getting closer," Kane said. "You know, 100 goals for the national team would be something special without a doubt.

"It still feels like yesterday I just broke the record, and I was away in Italy getting that one.

"The seasons come and they go quick, so I just enjoy being out there with the boys on the pitch, wearing the Three Lions and that won’t change.

"The striker’s job is to score goals first and foremost, and I know that, and I love doing that."
