FIVE England stars withdraw from Tuchel's squad ahead of crunch Spain clash

England have been hit by a raft of player withdrawals ahead of their Nations League matches in the international break.

Tino Livramento, Kobbie Mainoo, Cole Palmer, Marcus Rashford and Declan Rice have all pulled out of Thomas Tuchel's squad, with just James Garner and Morgan Gibbs-White called up as replacements. England said the withdrawals were due to "respective injury issues."

Mainoo and Rashford both started Manchester United's 1-1 draw against Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday. Both were substituted in the second half at Craven Cottage, with Michael Carrick later revealing that Rashford had an "issue".

"We had to bring him off as he had a bit of an issue," Carrick told beIN Sports. Asked if he was alright, he replied: "I'm not sure."

Palmer has featured in every Chelsea match this season, including their 3-0 defeat by Brentford on the weekend. He was left out of Tuchel's squad for the World Cup in the summer, but had been recalled for the upcoming games.

Rice was involved in Arsenal's 3-0 defeat by Brighton on the weekend. Livramento has recently returned to the fold for Newcastle following a long injury lay-off, which saw him miss this summer's World Cup.

Everton midfielder Garner has two England caps so far, while Nottingham Forest's Gibbs-White has played six times for the Three Lions. Gibbs-White has one goal and two assists for Forest this season and hasn't played for England since October 2025.

England host Spain at Wembley on September 26 before heading to Prague to play Czechia on Tuesday. They then head to Rijeka to play Croatia on October 3 before hosting Czechia at Wembley on October 6.

Speaking about Palmer and Gibbs-White after announcing the squad recently, Tuchel said: "We can see the form Morgan is in and he ended the season very strongly and was the key player for Forest to not be relegated. We can see him stepping up now.

"It's one thing to be nominated and getting back in the squad and to perform. Cole needs to show these kinds of numbers and performances to get his shirt and justify the nomination."

Palmer recently addressed his fitness issues, saying he felt better ahead of the new season with Chelsea. "Physically I feel good, probably the best I've felt in ages, but I think I can [get fitter] with games and more minutes," he said.

"Before my groin injury, I'd never really been injured. Well, rarely [injured]. So then I would just come back and play when I shouldn't have played. Obviously the World Cup was coming up, so I was in a bit of a dilemma thinking, 'if I don't play I'm not going to go. But if I play then, I can't play [properly].'

"It was just a bit of a sticky situation. I didn't really know how to deal with it, but it's one of those things. I was just seeing different people, getting different ideas of why I was injured and what it was.
