Enzo Maresca breaks silence on Enzo Fernandez transfer on Chelsea's deadline day

Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca has appeared to rule out a move to sign Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea today.

The Argentina international has been considering a move away from Stamford Bridge with doubts over long-term future first emerging back in March.

Former Chelsea boss Maresca, who replaced Pep Guardiola in the City hotseat this summer, is thought to be keen on a reunion with his former midfielder.

Chelsea have set a deadline of 5pm (BST) this evening for offers to be tabled, standing firm on their £120million valuation.

But speaking ahead of City’s Community Shield showdown with Arsenal on Sunday, Maresca said he was not expecting anything to materialise before that deadline.

‘Not today to be honest,’ Maresca told a press conference. ‘I don’t think we are going to do something today.’

Fernandez first raised the possibility of a move away from Chelsea in March during the final weeks of Liam Rosenior’s brief reign in charge.

In a string of interviews with foreign media outlets, he talked up a move to Real Madrid but Los Blancos have since insisted they have ‘no intention’ of signing Fernandez, valuing their relationship with Chelsea.
