Carragher talks up two Liverpool transfers who could follow Iraola

Jamie Carragher has suggested that Liverpool could go after Alex Scott or Rayan given their previous history with Andoni Iraola.

The Reds are in the midst of their new era under the Spaniard, who moved to Anfield off the back of three impressive years with the Cherries. Iraola's final season saw him lead Bournemouth into Europe for the first time, with Scott and Rayan among his top performers.

Bournemouth have sold their top players annually for huge profits - last season they offloaded Antoine Semenyo and prior to that had let Milos Kerkez head to Liverpool.

The Cherries dug their heels in over the summer and were determined to keep Scott despite links with Chelsea and Manchester United. Rayan, who was named in Brazil's World Cup squad, is another Carragher has hailed as he suggested Iraola may use his links to bring them to Merseyside.

He said of Scott on Sky Sports: "I think he’s a wonderful player. There was a lot of interest in him in the summer and because Liverpool have a former Bournemouth manager, you almost think: will there be a link or will there be a couple of players moving that way?

"I thought Rayan was fantastic last season as well. It will have been really good for him to get a goal in midweek because he probably hasn’t been himself at the start of the season. There are some fantastic players here at Bournemouth."

Kerkez was among the players to shine at the Vitality Stadium under Iraola, which prompted Liverpool to go after him. However the full-back has struggled at Anfield with his new boss looking to unlock the form he showed so regularly two seasons ago.

Scott could prove to be a target come the summer with Liverpool's midfield copping criticism this term. Iraola has the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister to choose from, whilst Florian Wirtz has been deployed centrally as the team's No 10.

A move for Rayan is less likely given the recent investment in the team's frontline. Bradley Barcola recently became Liverpool's third £100m plus signing over the last two summers, joining Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz. Cody Gakpo, Rio Ngumoha and Victor Munoz are also forward options for Iraola.

Liverpool were victorious at the Vitality on Sunday afternoon, beating Bournemouth 1-0 thanks to a strike from Alexander Isak.
