Carabao Cup second round draw LIVE: Chelsea, Newcastle and Leeds learn fate

It's time for the big guns to enter the Carabao Cup, with draw for the second round taking place tonight. Round one is almost complete and the 11 Premier League clubs who aren't in European competitions this season are preparing to enter the fray.

Chelsea, Newcastle and Leeds are among those waiting to discover their opponents, whether it be a fellow top-flight side or one from the EFL. Although there weren't many shocks in the first round, there was plenty of drama as teams from the Championship, League One and League Two battled it out.

Several ties had to be decided by penalties, including Burnley's clash with Notts County at Turf Moor in which Kyle Walker scored the winning spot kick to avoid an upset. Meanwhile at Loftus Road, Millwall goalkeeper Lukas Jensen made a fairytale return to action after 15 months out injured by saving all four of QPR's penalties in their shootout.

West Ham and Wolves both enjoyed three-goal wins, while Norwich and West Brom both scored four to put themselves in the hat in style. The final tie of the first round - taking place after the draw - sees Plymouth Argyle take on Exeter City in the Devon Derby at Home Park.

Nothing beats a derby. A Steel City clash featuring the two Sheffield sides would attract plenty of attention.

Down south Chelsea's rivalry with London rivals Tottenham remains one that always throws up memorable games.

The Carabao Cup is always the competition that could see a team sneak in through the side door.

The country's top teams are known for rotating early on, which leaves them susceptible to an upset.

Winning the Carabao Cup in 2025 ended a 70 year wait as Newcastle finally ended their silverware drought.

Bristol City were one of the major shocks of round one, they were beaten at Ashton gate by League Two Walsall. Several other Championship clubs were dumped out, but they were beaten by rival clubs in the second tier.

All Carabao Cup second round matches will take place in the week commencing Monday, August 24.

Specific dates and kick-off times will be confirmed at a later date.

Man City, who won't come in until the next round, are the defending champions. They dominated the Carabao Cup under Pep Guardiola and beat Arsenal in last year's final thanks to two goals from Nico O'Reilly.

The Carabao Cup remains split into north and south sections for the second round.

However, the third round won't be regionalised.

The draw will take place prior to the clash between Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City (kick-off 8pm).

It's slated to begin at 7:20pm.
