BRU-NO CHANCE! Man Utd issue instant response to shock Galatasaray move to sign Red Devils skipper Fernandes

Manchester United are set to promptly reject an 'audacious' approach from Galatasaray for captain Bruno Fernandes, it has been reported. Fernandes, 31, is entering the final 12 months of the three‑year deal he signed in 2024, though United retain an option to extend it by a further season.

The club are planning with their captain in mind, but his contract includes a £56million release clause that can be triggered by clubs outside England. It's not the first time the Portuguese has been linked with a departure from Old Trafford, and the club has had to fight to keep hold of their captain in the past.

Back in May, The Mirror reported Fernandes as a dream target for Galatasaray. The Istanbul club haven't been afraid to splash the cash in recent windows, adding the likes of Victor Osimhen and Leroy Sane.

According to The Independent, United are set to reject what has been described as an 'audacious approach' from Galatasaray, with the Turkish side preparing a substantial financial package for the midfielder. However, United's stance remains unchanged - Fernandes is not for sale.

With the summer window entering its final weeks and the Premier League kicking off on Friday, the Portuguese midfielder will not be allowed to leave. Fernandes remains a key figure for Michael Carrick and is expected to play a major role in United's Champions League campaign.

While there are currently no plans to offer Fernandes a new contract ahead of the coming season, that stance could shift once the campaign is underway. Fernandes, however, hinted at staying with United beyond the summer.

1. Head THIS WAY

"Playing for Manchester United is always a special moment for everyone. At the same time, it brings a lot of responsibility with it," he said last month. "But I don't think anyone comes to Manchester United thinking that we won't have the responsibility to win again, to be at the top of the Premier League, at the top of European football, because the club's history brings that responsibility.

"Regardless of the most recent years, they were not at the level that the club was used to. I think everyone always believes that we can be the ones who are going to do this, the ones who are going to turn the page, the ones who are going to make it possible for United to fight on all fronts. And I think that has to be special for us players, to realise that we can be the main, let's say, protagonists of this change of history for United to win again."

United finished third in the Premier League last season, their highest placing since 2022/23, and Carrick will look to build on that momentum heading into 2026/27, a campaign that marks their return to the Champions League for the first time since 2024.

Their campaign will begin away to Hull City on Saturday, August 22 (12:30pm).
