Chelsea head to Brighton this week knowing they badly need a result to keep their Champions League ambitions alive. Just one point apart in a tightly packed Premier League , out-of-sorts Chelsea travel to the Amex Stadium to face high-flying Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday night.

Brighton, meanwhile, are enjoying an impressive campaign. They sit ninth in the Premier League, just a point behind seventh-placed Brentford, and remain well placed to challenge for a Europa League spot - but they will need a strong run-in, starting with three points here.

The Seagulls arrive in form, with only one defeat in their last seven matches and five wins in that run. They have also taken two victories from their last three home games, with Arsenal the only side to beat them at the Amex in that spell.

Brighton twice trailed at Tottenham on Saturday but hit back on both occasions through Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter, a point that boosted their top-seven hopes while nudging Spurs closer to danger. Only a single point separates Brighton from Chelsea, Brentford and Bournemouth in a chaotic race for Europe. While the draw ended Fabian Hurzeler’s three-game winning streak, the Seagulls remain firmly in the mix.

Home form has been less convincing - Brighton have won only three of their last 10 Premier League games at the Amex after taking four victories from their first six home matches of the 2025-26 campaign - though their latest home outing was a statement 2-1 win over a wounded Liverpool in March.

This fixture has recently been a reliable source of goals: each of the last six meetings has featured over 2.5 goals, and both teams have scored in five of those six.

Chelsea, by contrast, are stuck in a difficult period. The Blues have lost six of their last seven matches, and pressure continues to build on Liam Rosenior amid growing unrest from supporters, who have been protesting against the club’s ownership and broader decision-making — a backdrop that has weighed on the atmosphere around Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s hopes of securing Champions League football took another hit on Saturday with a 1-0 defeat to Manchester United, while Brighton strengthened their European push by fighting back for a 2-2 draw at Tottenham. Liam Rosenior’s playing career finished at Brighton in 2018, and the 41-year-old’s bid to take Chelsea into Europe’s top competition next season could be all but ended by another underwhelming result on the South Coast.

Any “new manager bounce” has long since faded for Chelsea, who now have the dubious distinction of being the only Premier League side to lose each of their last four matches, with Matheus Cunha’s strike sending them to yet another dispiriting defeat at the weekend.

Chelsea were hindered by the absence of Joao Pedro, but with Michael Carrick forced to patch together a defence without Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro, Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt, their inability to score was even more concerning. With eight of Chelsea’s last 10 games also producing over 2.5 goals, another open contest looks likely. However, given Brighton have won the last three head-to-heads, the hosts may fancy their chances of extending that run.

Last time out, Chelsea lost Pedro before kick-off, then saw Estevao Willian and Enzo Fernandez forced off either side of half-time. Estevao’s hamstring injury could keep him out for a while, but Fernandez only had cramp and Pedro (thigh) trained on Monday.

Benoit Badiashile (illness) and Filip Jorgensen (groin) are still doubts, while Reece James, Levi Colwill, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and suspended Mykhaylo Mudryk are out.

Brighton’s Diego Gomez went off upset after a knee knock against Spurs, and replacement Kaoru Mitoma was later withdrawn too — but Hurzeler says Mitoma was only cramping. James Milner, Adam Webster and Stefanos Tzimas are still sidelined, while Lewis Dunk returns from suspension.
