Two Premier League sides with European ambitions meet at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon, as seventh-placed Brentford host eighth-placed Everton with the pair level on points. The reverse fixture earlier this year produced six goals, with Brentford running out 4-2 winners at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Brentford have not lost in the league since a 2-0 home defeat to Brighton in late February, but they have drawn their last three matches — against Bournemouth, Wolves and Leeds. The 0-0 at Elland Road before the international break underlined their recent issues in front of goal: the Bees have failed to score in three of their last five league games and mustered just 0.46 expected goals from two shots on target against Leeds.

Keith Andrews has warned it will take a “mammoth effort” to stay in the European places. Brentford sit seventh, three points behind fifth-placed Liverpool, but only four points clear of 13th-placed Bournemouth in a tight mid-table race.

They return home having taken 26 of their 46 points at the Gtech this season (W7 D5 L3), although they are now winless in four home league matches . Brentford also ended a six-game winless run against Everton (D3 L3) by winning that 4-2 thriller in January, and are aiming to secure back-to-back league wins over the Toffees for the first time since the pre-war era.

Everton arrive in strong form. Since gameweek 19, only Arsenal and Manchester United have collected more points than David Moyes’s side, who have taken 21 in that period. They have won three of their last four matches, scoring eight goals, and responded to a late 2-0 defeat at Arsenal by thumping Chelsea 3-0 three weeks ago.

A first European campaign since 2017-18 remains a realistic target, and victory on Saturday would lift Everton above another direct rival. Their recent away record is a major positive: they have earned more points on the road than at home this season, and since Moyes returned in January 2025 only Arsenal have taken more away points than Everton.

The Toffees are also unbeaten in their last three Premier League trips to Brentford, although they have conceded in each of their four away league meetings with the Bees, letting in exactly one goal every time.

Brentford are set to be without Rico Henry (thigh), Fabio Carvalho, Antoni Milambo and Josh Dasilva (all knee), while Aaron Hickey (thigh), Vitaly Janelt (ankle) and Mikkel Damsgaard (knee) will be assessed closer to kickoff.

Keith Andrews could switch back to a 4-2-3-1, with Sepp van den Berg and Nathan Collins likely to partner at centre-back and Michael Kayode and Keane Lewis-Potter expected to fill the full-back roles. Jordan Henderson, Yehor Yarmolyuk and Mathias Jensen are in line to continue in midfield.

Igor Thiago, who scored a hat-trick in the reverse fixture, is one goal away from 20 for the season — a mark previously reached for Brentford in the Premier League only by Ivan Toney (2022-23) and Bryan Mbeumo (2024-25).

Everton remain without Jack Grealish (foot), while Carlos Alcaraz is a doubt. There is optimism Iliman Ndiaye will be able to start after returning early from Senegal duty with a foot issue.

David Moyes may consider bringing Jarrad Branthwaite back in at centre-back or left-back, but he could keep faith with Jake O’Brien, James Tarkowski, Michael Keane and Vitaliy Mykolenko after their clean sheet last time out.

Beto, fresh from a brace against Chelsea, is pushing to keep the central striker role ahead of Thierno Barry. Idrissa Gueye should again partner James Garner in midfield, with the newly capped England man ranking second in the Premier League this season for both tackles (93) and interceptions (50).
