Barcelona president Joan Laporta has provided an insight into the club’s plans to pay tribute to club icon Lionel Messi at the Spotify Camp Nou.

Veteran attacker Messi of course brought a close to his legendary stint in the colours of Barcelona back in the summer of 2021. After spending the entirety of his career to that point plying his trade in Catalunya’s capital, financial problems forced the Argentine out.

Messi has since gone on to line out for French champions Paris Saint-Germain, and current employers Inter Miami in Major League Soccer.

The 39-year-old, though, will always be best remembered for his brilliance in the red and blue of Barcelona.

In turn, it should come as no surprise to learn of those in a position of power at the Camp Nou planning a special tribute for the club’s greatest-ever player.

Speaking during an exchange with the media, as cited by journalist Fabrizio Romano, this weekend, Barca chief Joan Laporta confirmed:

“We are planning for the Leo Messi tribute once the Spotify Camp Nou is completed. It will be a beautiful tribute. We hope to complete the stadium by the start of 2028.”
