Arsenal are ramping up their interest in an England youth international with two Premier League rivals also keen on the midfielder.

Andrea Berta has stepped in to push the Gunners to the front of the race for the Brighton star. Both Manchester clubs have registered an interest but Mikel Arteta remains keen on the versatile midfielder.

Arsenal have made four signings so far this summer including Illan Meslier, Christos Tzolis, Piero Hincapie and Bruno Guimaraes. However, it looks like the Gunners aren't finished with their transfer business just yet, as another English defender has been linked to a north London move.

Berta steps in

Arsenal are now the frontrunners to sign Brighton's Jack Hinshelwood, despite considerable interest from both Manchester City and Manchester United. The 21-year-old has emerged as a primary target for the Gunners with sporting director Andrea Berta preparing to open direct talks with his camp.

The Sun reports that a formal offer is being drawn up, with Arteta viewing Hinshelwood as an ideal addition to his squad. This is thanks to the player's versatility, as he can occupy both full-back positions and play across the middle of the park.

United have retained an interest in Hinshelwood for some time and have made their own enquiries. Meanwhile, City are also reportedly weighing up a move.

Jarell Quansah is considered untouchable by Bayer Leverkusen. However, should the German club reconsider their position, Liverpool would be granted first refusal.

Sky Sports revealed Arsenal's interest in the England international on Friday, with early discussions underway over a potential move. Reports emerging from Germany suggested the 23-year-old was "currently not for sale," though the Reds would be permitted to intervene in any deal.

BBC Sport reports that Liverpool retain the right to match any bid submitted for Quansah, though they have "no intention of actioning" any move. Liverpool previously held a £60million buy-back option but this has since run out.
